WHAT ARE THREAD PROCEDURES?
Cosmetic thread procedures, also known as thread lifting or thread rejuvenation, are non-surgical cosmetic procedures that use specialized threads to lift and contour sagging or aging skin. The threads are made of materials such as PDO (polydioxanone) or PLLA (polylactic acid), which are absorbable by the body and have been used safely in surgical sutures for many years.
During the procedure, the threads are inserted into the skin using a thin needle or cannula. Once inserted, the threads are gently pulled to lift and reposition the skin and superficial fat pads, providing a more youthful and lifted appearance. The threads also stimulate collagen production, which can further improve the skin’s texture and firmness over time.

TYPES OF THREAD PROCEDURES
Collagen stimulating threads and lifting threads are two different types of threads used in thread procedures, and they serve different purposes.
COLLAGEN STIMULATING THREADS
Collagen stimulating threads are designed to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. These threads are made of materials such as polydioxanone (PDO) or polycaprolactone (PCL), which are biocompatible and dissolvable. When these threads are inserted into the skin, they create tiny injuries that trigger the body’s natural healing process, which includes the production of new collagen. As the threads dissolve over time, the collagen fibers remain in the skin, helping to improve skin texture, firmness, and elasticity.
LIFTING THREADS
Lifting threads, on the other hand, are designed to physically lift and support sagging skin. These threads are usually made of a material called polydiaxanone (PDO). When these threads are inserted into the skin, they provide an instant lift by repositioning and supporting the underlying tissue. Over time, the threads also stimulate the production of collagen, which helps to maintain the lifting effect even after the threads have dissolved.
So, while both collagen stimulating threads and lifting threads can improve the appearance of sagging skin, they work in different ways. Collagen stimulating threads improve skin quality by promoting collagen production, while lifting threads provide an immediate lifting effect and also stimulate collagen production over time. The choice between these two types of threads will depend on the specific needs and goals of each individual patient.

How do PDO threads work?
Using a cannula to place barbed threads, I am able to lift superficial fat pads back up into their proper place, providing a nice “lift” to the face (improving “jowls” and “smile lines”) and to the neck (improving sagginess under the chin and defining the jawline).
Does the Thread Lift procedure hurt?
I provide anaesthesia in the form of lidocaine injections at the entry sites and along the pathway of the cannulas, so you will feel pressure with the procedure, but not severe pain. The lidocaine injections do sting, but are typically well tolerated.
How long will results from a Thread Lift last?
Longevity of results can vary patient to patient, but typically results last about one year.
How long does the Thread treatment take?
Including paperwork, numbing, and the procedure, it takes about one hour.
What can I expect after the procedure?
- You will have some swelling and bruising for up to a week, but typically patients immediately return to their normal routine.
- You will have tenderness for up to two weeks; you can take Tylenol and Ibuprofen to help with this. Icing as much as possible the first 48 hours helps minimize swelling, bruising, and discomfort.
- You will need to avoid strenuous exercise (especially high impact activities) for 2-4 weeks, depending on how quickly you heal.
- You will need to avoid going to the dentist for two weeks after your procedure and avoid opening your mouth extremely wide for two weeks.
- Don’t plan any big social events for one week after your procedure.
